Jovadre

Da Vinci Gallery

“As a 12-year-old, my grandfather gave me a camera. It was then I first discovered the possibilities of photography. While attending high school I learned to draw with red ochre, charcoal and sometimes used paint. My work turned out to be mostly abstract and dark colored, sometimes even turned out a bit surrealistic. As years went by, my interest in drawing disappeared but the interest in abstraction, colors and my love for surrealism remained.

Several jobs later, working as a physical labourer and later on as a change manager, my passion for photography was still very much alive. As a consequence of working with digital cameras, I more and more used the computer as a tool to modify, change and abstract the image. I really got passionate in alienating the image and remove any association.

My current work can be seen as an interaction of lines, forms and colors. Lines create abstrahated objects; forms create abstrahated faces and bodies (especially inspired by the female body); color creates light and is used intuitively. Color also frequently reinvents itself while I'm doing experiments with surfaces like metal, acrylic and other flat materials.

My wish to spread a message has always been there. It’s my personal challenge to create art that confuses, that forces you to look once, twice, again and again and keeps on surprising. If you leave a gallery or an exhibition, my work still needs to intrigue you.

The good thing about working in paid employment, is getting paid for what you do. As an artist you make your own creations without knowing if it pays off. Despite this, I follow what I believe in…. I’m not an average person. My digital art is not average either.”

Jovadre's work is fairly well-known within a small group of art lovers in several European countries. He is represented by galleries both nationally and internationally.
